How It Goes Together

The muscle to move the rudder(s) of your boat is provided by a Hydraulic Power Pack. This is either engine-driven or electrically-driven. Electrically-driven power packs have the advantage of providing full power to move the rudder fast when the boat is moving slowly at low throttle settings.  These electrically-driven power packs require a heavy-duty Switchboard to control them.  This Switchboard also contains the PLC which controls the steering.

The rudder is moved by one or more Hydraulic Cylinders which produce the huge forces necessary.

The Hydraulic Power Pack is fitted with Electric Solenoid Valves which direct pressurised oil to the cylinders.  This provides means to control the movement of the rudder electrically.

The rudder is also fitted with a Rudder Position Transducer, which tells the system the actual angle of the rudder.

At each of the steering positions in your vessel there is an Electric Steering Wheel. You can also choose Lever or Joystick controls.  Because of the way the system works, you will have fingertip control of your steering.

You will also have a Selector Panel at each steering station which enables you to steer from your chosen station and disable all the others.

An electro-hydraulic steering system also provides an ideal means of connecting an Autopilot to the steering.  AmbiLogic steering systems accept inputs from a wide variety of commercial and pleasure-boat autopilots.
